Our Commitment to Inclusion & Diversity
At Burlington, we stand for equality and respect the dignity of each individual. We embrace the many facets of diversity that strengthen our communities and our Burlington. We believe that everyone deserves to be treated with empathy and understanding.
Burlington prides itself on being a diverse and welcoming organization with more than 70% of our associates self-identifying as being part of a racial/ethnic minority group. We are also proud to have associates representing five different generational groups, from the Silent Generation (b 1927 – 1945) up through Centennials (b 1995 – ).
Our goal is to foster an inclusive, diverse workplace committed to equality. To support this effort we created Inclusion & Diversity councils which represent the different facets of our workforce. These councils are made up of associate volunteers who meet regularly to find ways to build on the strength of our diversity and help drive positive change throughout Burlington
While we value our diversity, our true focus is on being inclusive – a place where all people can bring their true selves to work. To measure our progress, we conduct an annual anonymous survey which is taken by more than 33,000 associates. Our most recent survey results revealed that 92% of our associates “believe Burlington makes it easy for people from diverse backgrounds to fit in and be accepted.” Additionally, for three years in a row, Burlington has been recognized as a Best Workplace for Diversity and a Best Work place for Women (FORTUNE).
Each month we prominently feature the holidays and traditions celebrated across the globe on corporate and store communication channels. Our goal is to help associates from all cultures and ethnicities feel welcomed and help educate other associates about the important traditions and celebrations of their co-workers.
Being Allies
Burlington has been a proud sponsor of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Greater Philadelphia Gala for three consecutive years. Additionally, June 2019 marked Burlington’s first official corporate participation in the Philly Pride Parade. Associates, their families and their friends came together to proudly walk the streets of Philadelphia in support of the LGBTQ+ community. Our theme, which was displayed on our banner and t-shirts read “Burlington: All Hearts Welcome.”
Burlington is an active supporter of the Black Retail Action Group or BRAG, a 501 c 3 non-profit organization dedicated to helping prepare students of color for executive leadership in retail, fashion and related industries. Our work with BRAG includes offering educational support, internships, and participating in their annual Gala event.
